About us

Our mission is to provide science-based food that is nutritious, all-natural, and delicious.

Why we exist

Grain Forest is a startup founded to address 3 dietary problems faced by most Malaysians:

1. Imbalanced diet. Malaysian food is very tasty but at the same time very unhealthy. Our local favorites often contain too much salt, sugars, bad fats, and too little fiber, healthy fats, and essential nutrients.

2. “Health foods” that have no scientific basis. Many of the so-called “health foods” out there do more harm than good, loaded as they are with sugars, unhealthy fats, and harmful ingredients. We’re not saying that this is intentional, but it is what happens when nutrition science is replaced by myths and unfounded beliefs.

3. Negative mindset about healthy food. Many Malaysians think that healthy food can’t be tasty. We beg to differ! With the right culinary techniques and nutrition knowledge, natural wholesome foods can become tasty treats that are still beneficial to our health.

Our products

Here at Grain Forest, we specialize in granola, muesli, and healthy snacks. We use lots of wholesome grains, nuts, and fruits, all proven sources of dietary fiber, healthy fats, vitamins, and antioxidants.

But we don’t just randomly mix nutritious ingredients around!

We understand that everybody has different needs, so we design our products based on targeted, optimized nutrient profiles.

Here’s our process:

Step 1.
Nutrition profile

First, we design specific nutrition profiles for different health needs – weight control, brain health, high fiber, etc.

Not everyone needs the same nutrients for optimal health!

Step 2.
Product formulation

Next, we choose the ingredients that match the requirements of each nutrition profile.

We adjust the amounts of each ingredient until our recipes achieve optimal values for every nutrient – fats, fiber, protein, calories, etc.

Step 3.
Sourcing

Then, we shop around and gather only high-quality ingredients from reputable suppliers.

The secret to great food is great ingredients!

Step 4.
Trials & Production

Lastly, we bake and personally try every formulation in small batches.

The recipes are carefully adjusted to obtain delicious products that have the perfect taste, texture, and appearance while keeping optimal nutritional values.

Now, we also understand that the “perfect taste” is different for everyone.

That’s why we’ve put together a customization platform where you can create your own superfood and healthy snacks, using the ingredients you love.

We only provide highly nutritious ingredients, so you can’t go wrong with any of your creations

Who we are

We are scientists, health advocates, and foodies.

We are also our own guinea pigs. Muesli and granola have been our breakfast for years. Oftentimes, we eat them for dinner too!

It all started when we relocated to Switzerland, the birthplace of muesli, more than 10 years ago.

It was there where we turned into fervent muesli eaters and never looked back: this diet change had a tremendous impact on our health! There’s no denying this is healthy stuff.

Now that we’ve moved back to Malaysia, we want to share our “muesli culture” with those around us.  Not because we want to impose a foreign tradition, or because we don’t like the food here. On the contrary!

We’re loving all the local delicacies, but we’re concerned about their impact on the health of Malaysians.

Our country has now the highest rate of obesity among Asian countries, according to official reports. High blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease are also at an all-time high.

This public health crisis can be mostly attributed to unhealthy eating habits and physical inactivity. As scientists and health professionals, we want to help change that by offering Malaysians healthy food choices based on nutrition science.

The idea is NOT to make you quit your favorite local foods.

All we want is to introduce some balance to your diet to help improve your health.
